Knicks make blockbuster trade to acquire Villanova product Mikal Bridges

The New York Knicks wasted little time this offseason in the drive to improve the roster. The organization acquired promising forward Mikal Bridges in a blockbuster trade with the Brooklyn Nets.

The Knicks agreed to part ways with four unprotected first-round picks, a protected 2025 first-round selection from the Milwaukee Bucks, an unprotected 2028 pick swap, and a 2025 Nets’ second-round selection.

The massive trade puts Bridges back with his former Villanova Teammates Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo. He joins a promising young core group that has helped transform the Knicks into a playoff constant in the Eastern Conference.

New York is hoping Bridges’ arrival gives them a much-needed added element that can push them into championship contention. He has continued to emerge as a promising two-way talent, largely experiencing a significant boon offensively during his time with Brooklyn.

He will have the opportunity to expand on that with the Knicks as one of their primary offensive factors. The 27-year-old is coming off averaging 19.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. Meanwhile, he shot 43.6 percent from the floor and 37.2 percent from beyond the arc in 82 regular-season games.

Bridges has proven to be a durable player who can stretch the floor with his shooting and create his own offense. Meanwhile, his length and defensive prowess make him a strong asset on that end of the floor.

He’s entering the third year of his four-year, $90.9 million deal. His contract doesn’t include a player option for the final year.
