Lakers acquire Luka Doncic in trade sending Anthony Davis to Mavs

In a stunning turn of events, the Los Angeles Lakers acquired star guard Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for star big man Anthony Davis in a blockbuster three-team trade involving the Utah Jazz.

The deal also sends forwards Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris from the Mavericks to the Lakers while Dallas acquires guard Max Christie and the Lakers’ 2029 first-round pick.

Meanwhile, the Utah Jazz lad second-year guard Jalen Hood-Schifino, the LA Clippers’ 2025 second-round pick and the Mavericks’ 2025 second-round selection.

“Luka is a one-of-a-kind, young global superstar who will lead this franchise for years to come,” general manager Rob Pelinka via a team press release. “His killer instincts and commitment to winning championships will be a driving force for the team. We will be relentless in building a roster around the on-court vision Coach Redick has for this basketball team and there is an unwavering commitment to that work to serve our loyal and dedicated fans. We are grateful for today and look forward to what’s next.”

There had been no previous inkling concerning the Mavericks considering moving the five-time All-Star. Reports have since surfaced regarding conflict with his commitment to his physical conditioning and ability to stay on the floor because of those issues.

Despite those internal doubts from the Mavericks, the Lakers jumped at the opportunity to land a franchise cornerstone player who can take over once LeBron James either retires or leaves the team.

For the Mavericks, the move signals a significant change but maintains their win-now quest by adding one of the league’s best two-way talents. Davis will get his long-desired move to power forward while pairing alongside star point guard Kyrie Irving.
