Although James was the 55th overall pick, there has remained strong interest in his performance in the summer league, more than any other incoming rookie.

Through four games played at the summer league in Las Vegas, he’s averaging 8.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists while shooting 35 percent from the floor and 15.8 percent from beyond the arc in 25 minutes per game.

After a rough first two games, he notched back-to-back double-digit scoring performances. He has had his fair share of ups and downs in summer league action, as expected, as he adjusts to playing against potential NBA-level talent.

There is undoubtedly an increased spotlight on James due to his father, LeBron James as well as playing for the Lakers next season. At this point, it’s extremely hard to gauge what kind of role he will play in his rookie campaign.

Under first-year head coach J.J. Redick, there could be an opportunity for him to earn a role off the bench. Redick has already praised James for his defensive prowess and basketball IQ. Meanwhile, the USC product has expressed interest for playing time even if comes at the G-League level next season.
