Lakers legend Kobe Bryant will be cover athlete for NBA 2K24
After weeks of speculation, NBA 2K has made the decision to honor a former Los Angeles Lakers great. Kobe Bryant as the cover athlete for the NBA 2k24 edition.
“As we celebrate 25 years of NBA 2K with Kobe Bryant, we commemorate his legacy and the generational impact he has had on the game of basketball,” Greg Thomas, president at Visual Concepts, the game’s developer, said in a statement via ESPN. “While we mark the history of the franchise, NBA 2K24 also looks ahead to the future to bring an innovative leap in technology and the introduction of community-requested features like crossplay.”

The game features the Kobe Bryant Edition and the Black Mamba Edition which can be preordered beginning on Friday. It marks the fourth time that the Lakers legend will appear on the cover.
NBA 2K had an easy decision to choose Bryant for multiple reasons beyond his No. 24 matching the year number of the game. He’s regarded as one of the game’s greatest players. As a result Bryant had a significant influence on the generation of talent that followed him.

Bryant put together an illustrious NBA career that featured setting numerous records while earning five NBA titles, two NBA Finals MVP awards, 18 All-Star game appearances, and ranking fourth on the all-time scoring list.
The NBA has done a tremendous job in continuing to honor Bryant in various capacities beyond the Lakers retiring his two jersey numbers. The next logical step will be to finally place his statue outside of Crypto.com Arena.
