LeBron James opens up about his future with the Lakers

As LeBron James moves through his 21st season, questions remain concerning his NBA future with the Los Angeles Lakers.

James holds a $51.4 million player option for next season, but there isn’t any clarity regarding what he plans to do. Despite that, the 20-time All-Star voiced that he hopes to finish his career with the Lakers.

“I am a Laker and I’m happy and been very happy being a Laker the last six years and hopefully it stays that way,” James said. “But I don’t have the answer to how long it is or which uniform I’ll be in. Hopefully [it] is with the Lakers. It’s a great organization, so many greats. But we’ll see.”

Although James speaks with hope in his mind to finish his playing days with the Lakers, his NBA future lies in his hands. Ownership and management have frequently voiced the desire for him to play the remainder of his career in a purple and gold uniform.

However, James has repeatedly stated that he does want to play alongside his son, Bronny James, before he steps into retirement.

Bronny could declare for the NBA draft this year after he completes his freshman season at USC.

LeBron James told TNT’s “Inside the NBA” crew that his son has yet to determine whether he will enter the NBA draft.

“It’s up to him, it’s up to the kid,” James said. “We’re going to go through the whole process. He’s still in season now. He has the Pac-12 tournament coming up. … We’re going to weigh all options and we’re going to let the kid make the decision.”

There are plenty of factors on the table, but it’s clear that James has a strong desire to continue his tenure with the Lakers beyond this season.
