Mavs superstar Luka Doncic could miss some time with thigh injury

As the regular season moves closer to a close, the Dallas Mavericks find themselves in the thick of a playoff push. The Mavericks’ pathway just became a bit more difficult after star guard Luka Doncic sustained with a left thigh injury that could force him to miss a few games.

Luka Doncic underwent an MRI that returned clean with no damage, but a return will hinge on him not experiencing discomfort. He began experiencing pain since after the Mavericks’ win against the San Antonio Spurs on Feb. 23.

He woke up the morning after the contest dealing with discomfort in the leg. The injury forced him to exit Wednesday’s loss against the New Orleans Pelicans in the third quarter.

Doncic didn’t play in Saturday’s road game against the Memphis Grizzlies, where Dallas fell short without him and Kyrie Irving, who is working through right foot soreness. The 24-year-old is putting together another highly productive campaign, ranking second with 33.0 points per game and sixth with 8.0 assists while shooting 50% from the floor and 34.9% from 3-point range.

The Mavericks sit in a tough spot in the 8th position in the Western Conference standings after dropping seven out of their last 10 games. Dallas is facing the possibility of having to participate in the play-in tournament to secure a playoff spot.

Doncic isn’t expected to miss any extended time, but the losses are starting to push them out of garnering a top-six seed that would avoid the play-in tournament altogether.
