Mavs superstar Luka Doncic emerges as favorite to win NBA MVP

The 2020-21 NBA season is almost upon us with the league set to get underway on Dec. 22. The race for NBA MVP just got more interesting due to Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks.

According to ESPN, Doncic has moved ahead of two-time MVP Giannis Antetokoumpo of the Milwaukee Bucks in the odds for the regular-season award.

Luka Doncic has separated himself from Giannis Antetokounmpo and emerged as the consensus favorite to win the regular-season MVP at U.S. sportsbooks, and bettors are flocking to the Dallas Mavericks’ young superstar.

On Nov. 10, Doncic and Antetokounmpo opened as +550 co-favorites at Caesars Sportsbook by William Hill. Since then, Doncic has attracted twice as many bets — and twice as much money — as any other player to become the solo favorite at +450.

There were initial doubts about whether Doncic would be an NBA star and how long it may take. However, he’s entering his third season in the league has a legitimate superstar.

The Mavericks have been able to make the quick transition from the Dirk Nowitzki era to Luka’s era. The transition was seamless and now Doncic is making a strong case to be the future face of not only the Mavericks but the league itself.

Whether Doncic can beat out big-name players like Antetokounmpo, LeBron James and Anthony Davis remains to be seen. Although it’ll be interesting to see if this is the year he cements himself as the league’s best player.
