Mike Breen Breaks Silence After LeBron James Denies Joel Embiid Story
During last Monday’s preseason game between the Philadelphia 76ers and New York Knicks, longtime broadcaster Mike Breen discussed a story he had heard about an interaction between LeBron James and Joel Embiid, which the four-time league MVP has since denied.
Breen said James made stern remarks about Embiid arriving late to practice.
“Somebody told me before the game that they were out ready to practice, and Joel Embiid walked out on the court a couple of minutes late, and LeBron let him hear it,” Breen said on the broadcast.
With James coming out to shoot down the story as inaccurate, Breen publicly apologized for airing it.
“I thought it would be an interesting anecdote to show LeBron’s leadership already on display in Philly,” Breen said via ESPN.
“For me, the fact that the teammate was Joel was meaningless. In hindsight, I should have realized the fact that it was Joel is what made it a story. I’ve always been a huge fan of Joel and feel awful that it put the focus on him the way that it did.”
Breen’s track record speaks for itself; he has been a reliable source of information and holds tremendous credibility in the industry.

That said, the 76ers do have an interesting dynamic heading into the upcoming season. There is plenty of change in the roster, with not only James but also Jaylen Brown joining the mix, which will drastically change things in Philadelphia.
It will be interesting to see how things shake out as the 76ers look to contend for an NBA title.
