Myles Turner opens up about shocking move to sign with Bucks

The Indiana Pacers had an inspired run to the NBA Finals during the 2024-25 campaign, as Tyrese Haliburton and company were able to defy the odds and beat out the competition in the Eastern Conference.

However, the aftermath of the seven-game NBA Finals against the eventual NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder has proven costly to the Pacers, with Haliburton set to miss all of next season due to an Achilles injury and Myles Turner leaving the team in NBA free agency to join the rival Milwaukee Bucks.

Turner shocked everyone with his decision to leave the only team he’s played for on the NBA level in free agency, as it seemed to be a foregone conclusion that he’d re-sign with Indiana. The veteran center recently talked about his surprising decision, via Michael C. Wright of ESPN.

“For me, ultimately it was about just staying competitive,” Turner said. “Two years ago, we got to the conference finals. Obviously, last year we got to the Finals. Being a big part of winning basketball just changed my entire perspective on this league. I saw a chance to remain competitive here.”

It’ll be interesting to see how Turner works his way into the Bucks roster and plays alongside superstar big man Giannis Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee next season and potentially for the foreseeable future.

The Bucks are in a difficult position at the moment after parting ways with Damian Lillard, and it seems they may have rubbed Antetokounmpo the wrong way as a result. This has led to speculation that the face of the franchise will ask to be traded.
