NBA rumors: 76ers to pursue LeBron James in free agency
The possibility of LeBron James leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers in NBA free agency next summer seems very likely. Although the Cavs have turned things around this year, LeBron’s departure may be imminent. The Philadelphia 76ers re being mooted as a potential suitor for the three-time NBA champion.
According to Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today, the 76ers may be planning on going after the superstar when he hits the open market in July.
If James, who can become a free agent after this season, decides to leave the Cavaliers, he could – and should – consider the 76ers, and executives around the league believe Sixers president of basketball operations Bryan Colangelo will attempt to sign James.
The Sixers are an intriguing possibility, and if James’ goal remains competing for championships and Cleveland is no longer the place, the Sixers can make a compelling case.
NBA Title
Obviously, a lot can and will happen between now and July. The 76ers may end up dealing with more injury issues. with Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid making Philadelphia a destination that might be a questionable one for a star of LeBron’s caliber and age at 32.
Of course, the 76ers will likely have to compete with quite a few suitors for LeBron’s services this summer with the Los Angeles Lakers expected to take a run at him. With the way teams move and acquire players lately, there’s no telling which franchises may throw their hat in the ring when the time comes.
In the meantime, LeBron will try to win a second NBA title in Cleveland with their changes seemingly improving.Â
