NBA Rumors: Clippers proposed trade involving Blake Griffin, Karl-Anthony Towns
The L.A. Clippers have been involved in quite a few trade rumors lately and the most recent is about as interesting as it gets for the franchise as it involves the Minnesota Timberwolves.
According to Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders, the Clippers proposed a blockbuster trade that would send superstar Blake Griffin to the Timberwolves in exchange for Karl-Anthony Towns.
The Los Angeles Clippers proposed a blockbuster deal to the Minnesota Timberwolves involving forward Blake Griffin and center Karl-Anthony Towns, league sources told Basketball Insiders.
The deal was declined by the Timberwolves because Minnesota views Towns as a franchise player, via Scotto.
The trade proposal didn’t advance past an exploratory call from the Clippers as Minnesota declined, league sources told Basketball Insiders. Minnesota views Towns, the former No. 1 overall pick of the 2015 draft, as a franchise-caliber player and a vital piece of the future who is not for sale at this time.
It seems at this point the Clippers may be looking to shake things up a bit as they appear to be heading in the wrong direction with the way the team is currently constructed. Veteran center DeAndre Jordan is also rumored to be on the trading block with a deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers potentially in the works ahead of the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 8.
So despite signing Griffin to a long-term deal this past summer, the Clippers may be looking to start from scratch with Doc Rivers and company potentially seeing the writing on the wall. A rebuilding process may be underway in Los Angeles.
The Clippers currently have some of the longest odds to win the Western Conference this season. Only the Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Lakers have worse odds at this point in the 2017-18 NBA campaign.
