Nick Nurse Reveals Early Plan for LeBron James in 76ers Offense

As the Philadelphia 76ers move through training camp ahead of the 2026-27 season, the team already has a definitive role in mind for star forward LeBron James.

It didn’t take head coach Nick Nurse to lay out what he believes could be the best game plan with James in the fold.

“I just think LeBron, I consider him a great offense creator,” Nurse said via ESPN. “I don’t necessarily mean scorer, I just think creator and a table setter and all that kind of stuff. … If it isn’t bringing it up and starting [the possession], it’s probably going to be first pass anyway to [him on] the wing and then we get into our actions, and he’s kind of seeing what’s there, and he’s creating offense for others.”

The 76ers are hoping to maximize James’ unique skill set, particularly his playmaking as a passer and ball handler, to help lighten the offensive burden on the rest of their stacked starting lineup, which features three other All-Stars.

Beyond James, Philadelphia is hoping that other players such as Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, and VJ Edgecombe can significantly impact the game by pushing the ball in transition.

The 76ers possess one of the league’s most unique rosters, featuring several elite offensive talents. Although James is entering his 24th season, he still has plenty to offer with his playmaking ability as a passer and scorer.

The 76ers will utilize training camp and portions of the preseason to get more on-court chemistry while developing a more fine-tuned offensive identity.
