Pascal Siakam drops hint that he might re-sign with Pacers

After the Pacers fell in to the Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals, the team’s focus shifted to the critical offseason plans ahead.

Atop the list sits forward Pascal Siakam’s future with Indiana. Siakam is headed to free agency finishing the final year of his four-year, $136.9 million deal. The 30-year-old aired his appreciation for the Pacers while hinting at his desire to remain with the franchise.

“All I can say is that it’s been a blessing. I’m really appreciative of everything. I think coming from where I come from, it means a lot,’ Siakam said via Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. “The support I’ve received here is something that I was kind of missing. Having all that, seeing how the city breathes basketball, and how much support they give to the team, just being here for the home games, it’s incredible. How would you not be a part of that? I’m just really blessed and happy how this has been.”

Siakam’s arrival brought a calming and much-needed factor to the Pacers that helped push them to an Eastern Conference Finals appearance. He fit smoothly into the fold as a highly dependable option next to All-Star point guard Tyrese Haliburton and big man Myles Turner.

In 41 regular-season games with Indiana, he averaged 21.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. Meanwhile, he shot 54.9 percent from the floor and 38.6 percent from 3-point range.

The Pacers are reportedly leaning toward offering Siakam a max five-year deal to keep him. Time will tell if Indiana can keep the star forward.
