Pelicans make surprising move by parting ways with GM Dell Demps
The New Orleans Pelicans have been engulfed by chatter over the last several weeks.
Things took yet another turn on Friday as the team decided to part ways with longtime general manager Dell Demps, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
The New Orleans Pelicans have parted ways with general manager Dell Demps, the team announced on Friday, clearing the way for a new top basketball executive to oversee the Anthony Davis trade talks
This adds yet another storyline around the Pelicans as it brings more questions as to how things are handled around the franchise. It also puts forth speculation of what may have led to this move at this point in time.
Much of which could lead directly toward the handling of the situation involving the trade talks around star forward Anthony Davis. There had been chatter that the team didn’t necessarily want to move Davis to the Lakers, but rather hold out until the summer where teams like the Boston Celtics could jump into the bidding for the All-Star big man.
The move by the Pelicans could shake things up a bit with how they approach trading Davis this upcoming offseason. It could also change how the team holds trade talks with the Lakers.
In the meantime, the Pelicans have appointed Danny Ferry as the interim general manager with Demps out of the picture. Ferry had previously held the position with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks.
There should be much more to come in the next few months as the Pelicans sort things out in their front office.
