Pelicans reportedly determined to re-sign DeMarcus Cousins

The New Orleans Pelicans are a team hoping to put it all together. Superstars DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis are leading the way. Unfortunately, the Pelicans don’t have much time to get this dynamic duo clicking on all cylinders with Cousins set to become a free agent this summer.

Although there’s no guarantee New Orleans will be able to sign Cousins long-term, the team apparently has no intention of trading him before the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 8. The Pelicans will ride it out, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

So far, New Orleans is determined to re-sign center DeMarcus Cousins and hasn’t invited trade offers on him.

Thus far, Cousins hasn’t missed a beat since being traded to the Pelicans from the Sacramento Kings last season. New Orleans may not be in the same category as the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers. However, they’re still much improved with Cousins playing alongside Davis.

Cousins is averaging 25.9 points, 12.6 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game this season. The veteran center is also shooting 48.2 percent from the field and 35.7 from beyond the arc.

As the total package as a versatile center, plenty of teams in the league would likely love to get their hands on Cousins even with his infamous temper that can get him into trouble with NBA referees. It’ll be interesting to see if the Pelicans’ stance changes in the coming weeks as the trade deadline draws near.

In the meantime, the Pelicans remain a longshot to win the title this season and that doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon.
