Ray Allen May Make NBA Comeback To Keep Stephen Curry At Bay

After two years sitting out, it appears Ray Allen wants to make an NBA comeback. The two-time NBA champion may have one compelling, motivating factor to extend his career for a little longer.

Unlike other players at or near his age (41), many believe Allen can still be a valuable contributor with the league geared more to three-point shooting. Allen wants back in the NBA and may have his sights set on keeping superstar Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors at bay in terms of his record, according to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe via CSNNE.com:

Ray wants to play again. I’m sure about that. I don’t think he particularly enjoys watching Stephen Curry rain 3s and challenge his record and be called the best shooter in the world. I think that bothers him. I know Ray wants to extend his all-time 3-point record.

Ironically enough, it wasn’t all that long ago that Allen was linked with the Warriors. There’s no question Allen would flourish in an offense like Golden State’s, but it is unclear whether there’s still interest from either side.

Other potential destinations for Allen include a return to the Boston Celtics or joining the San Antonio Spurs or Los Angeles Clippers. It won’t be all that surprising to see other teams surface as possibilities in the coming months if Allen is intent on coming back.

As of right now, Allen remains unemployed. That stance will quickly change if he’s determined to return, the question is which team is willing to roll the dice on the veteran guard. The Clippers might be an intriguing destination with the former Boston Celtics star possibly reuniting with Doc Rivers and Paul Pierce.

Although the Clippers is intriguing, the Spurs might be the best bet for Allen if he wants the best shot at winning a title next season. San Antonio will be a heavyweight in the Western Conference once again next season and would be that much more improved with an elite shooter like Allen was thrown into the mix for Gregg Popovich.
