Rockets GM Daryl Morey says it’s ‘factual’ that James Harden ‘is a better scorer than Michael Jordan’

Beyond the Houston Rockets making the surprising acquisition of All-Star point guard Russell Westbrook, general manager Darryl Morey has been the center of conversation over his comments concerning star guard James Harden.

Morey voiced a few weeks back on the Dan Patrick Show that he believed that Harden is a better pure scorer than Hall of Famer Michael Jordan ever was. He has now doubled down on that stance during a recent interview on the “Selfmade with Nadeshot” podcast, according to ESPN.

“It’s just factual that James Harden is a better scorer than Michael Jordan,” Morey said on the “Selfmade with Nadeshot” podcast.

Morey acknowledged that people “hate” his take but explained how the numbers support his statement.

“Based on literally, like you give James Harden the ball and before you’re giving up the ball how many points do you generate? Which is how you should measure offense. James Harden is by far No. 1 in NBA history,” Morey said on the podcast that was published Thursday.

Morey hasn’t backed down from this point of view by any means as this has only further cemented his stance. However, there has been a bit of a backlash for his comments about placing Harden over Jordan, who is also widely regarded as the greatest player of all-time.

The six-time NBA champion put together an illustrious career that saw him notch 10 scoring titles while he also holds the highest career regular-season scoring average at 30.12 points per game and the highest career playoff scoring average at 33.45 points. On top of that, Jordan is also currently fifth all-time in scoring in NBA history.

Harden has certainly put forth a strong start to his career, but there is still a steep hill for him to climb in order to put himself anywhere near that category. In the meantime, he has a chance to etch his legacy even further in this next chapter of his career.
