Saints star Drew Brees is ‘passing the torch’ to Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson
Since being selected with the first overall pick in this year’s draft by the New Orleans Pelicans, the city of New Orleans has quickly taken a strong liking to him.
This has seen him receive a strong reception and excitement about his arrival to the franchise. Among those that have wasted no time in welcoming him to New Orleans was New Orleans Saints star quarterback Drew Brees, who gifted him with a signed jersey with a personal message for Williamson, according to ESPN.
“Wow, passing the torch. Am I ready to take that on? The city of New Orleans,” Williamson says in the video.
The jersey was accompanied by a card that read, “Zion, welcome to the family. Let’s dance.”
There has been a tremendous level of excitement and buzz surrounding Williamson given what may lie ahead of the city and the franchise. He has shown to be a phenomenal talent with freakish athleticism and prowess for the game.
This is something that the Pelicans are hoping they can build around him for the long haul while developing a team that can experience much success and eventually competes for an NBA title. The city of New Orleans has already done its part by taking him in and making him feel like he belongs to the area.
Ultimately, all of this excitement will have to wait until he’s able to take the court to prove that he can fulfill on that huge amount of promising talent and hype around him to become a superstar in the NBA.
