Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama reflects on his first experience in San Antonio
It didn’t take long for promising rookie big man Victor Wembanyama to get his first experience as a San Antonio Spurs center.
The Spurs put together a memorable dinner gathering with former franchise greats Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, David Robinson, and Sean Elliott to welcome Wembanyama aboard.
“Probably in a couple hours, I learned more about the NBA than my whole life before that,” Wembanyama said at a news conference at AT&T Center on Saturday afternoon via ESPN. “It’s so comforting to see these people who are so important to the city of San Antonio and the franchise are such great people and generous. They genuinely wanted to share their experience. I feel like they’ve already started to take great care of me. It’s so important to be in a position where it’s so comfortable.”
The Spurs are clearly trying to make the transition as smooth as possible for their prized rookie big man. He has the world of expectations on his shoulders to carry the franchise into the next era of sustained success as his predecessors.
Meanwhile, San Antonio will do whatever it can to help him along the way to eventually shoulder that massive responsibility. The dinner with a few of the franchise greats has helped give him a taste of what to expect ahead with the organization.
