Stephen Curry Leaves Millions on the Table in New Warriors Deal

The Golden State Warriors have secured star point guard Stephen Curry to a two-year, $116 million extension.

The new deal extends the four-time NBA champion through his 20th season and includes a player option for the final year.

He was in the last year of his contract, which was paying him $62.6 million for the 2026-27 season, and he became eligible for an extension worth up to two years and $136.7 million.

Curry’s new deal is roughly over $20 million lower than the max he could have signed for with the Warriors. It will provide Golden State with roughly $10 million extra in projected cap space next summer, allowing them to ink another high-impact player in free agency or the trade market.

The extension pushes him to $652 million in on-court earnings, which makes him the first player to eclipse more than $600 million in league history.

The 38-year-old is coming off an injury-plagued campaign that saw him miss 39 games due to a persistent right knee issue, but he averaged 26.6 points, 4.7 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.1 steals while shooting 46.8 percent from the floor and 39.3 percent from beyond the arc in 43 games with 41 starts.

Curry has voiced confidence that he’s in a much better place physically ahead of training camp.

“The idea of getting back to work is exciting,” Curry said via ESPN. “I feel like I’ve taken advantage of the offseason. I feel like there’s no hesitation about where I’m at physically going in. … But I’m excited about getting back to work.”
