Steve Kerr reacts to Warriors’ Joe Lacob’s email to a fan
The Golden State Warriors garnered attention off the court after Sunday’s 136-131 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers, with owner Joe Lacob’s email exchange with a fan becoming public.
It was a brief back and forth that first saw Warriors fan, Justin Dutari, send a strongly worded email to Lacob, stating that the team needs a “real second option” and that Jimmy Butler’s “tools are being underutilized.”
Lacob responded by writing:
“You can’t be as frustrated as me. I am working on it. It’s complicated. Style of play. Coaches desires regarding players. League trends. Jimmy is not the problem.”
It didn’t take long for that conversation to make its way back to head coach Steve Kerr, who brushed off the situation.
“Not a big deal,” Kerr said, acknowledging he’d seen the email via ESPN. “Not concerned about anything like that.”
Kerr’s concern lies with the Warriors’ lack of sustained success this season, as they have fallen to a 13-15 record through the first 28 games. The Golden State Warriors sit in the ninth spot, having lost their last three straight contests, with the latest coming on Thursday night against the Phoenix Suns.

The Warriors haven’t looked a bit the part of a team that has strong playoff aspirations, let alone can contend for an NBA title. The Golden State Warriors sit in a rough spot, as their lack of roster depth and dependability has put them trailing nearly out of the play-in tournament seeding.
It is still quite early in the regular season, but the clock is ticking.
