Victor Oladipo Makes Bold Declaration in Open Letter to NBA GMs

Former All-Star guard Victor Oladipo is taking his journey back to the NBA up another notch by penning an open letter to general managers across the league.

“I believe my body is finally right,” Oladipo wrote via ESPN. “I believe I still have GREAT (and more importantly WINNING) basketball in front of me. I believe I can be a valuable contributor to an NBA locker room. And what I’m asking for right now is an opportunity to prove it.”

Oladipo last played in the NBA in April 2023 when he tore his left patellar tendon as a member of the Miami Heat. Since then, it’s been an uphill battle for him to get another opportunity to showcase that he can still play at a high level that would warrant an NBA roster spot.

Last season, the 34-year-old played in the G League with the Wisconsin Herd, where he averaged 13.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. However, it didn’t lead to a call-up to the NBA, leaving his hopes uncertain about getting back into the league.

It is completely out of Oladipo’s control, but he hasn’t lost belief that a team will give him the chance to prove he can still play.

“I don’t know how my journey here is going to end,” he wrote. “Maybe a team out there will give me a chance. Maybe no team will. That’s really up to you all. But if you’re in an NBA front office, and you took the time to read this: Thank you from the bottom of my heart. And I can promise you one thing, always, about my basketball story … from the first page to the last.

“It’s a love story.”
