Warriors’ Kristaps Porzingis Announces Major Decision About NBA Future

Veteran big man Kristaps Porzingis appears to be headed toward a split with the Golden State Warriors, with the one-time NBA champion dealing with a persistent health issue that has led him to a tough decision about his playing career.

On Friday, Porzingis announced that he is “stepping away” from basketball to address his health issue, via ESPN.

Golden State Warriors center Kristaps Porzingis has announced that he is stepping away from basketball due to his physical inability to play at the level to which he is accustomed.

Porzingis issued a statement about working with the Warriors to reach a solution, as he’s on a $20 million, one-year contract.

“I want to show the utmost respect for the Golden State Warriors and work with them to find a solution that makes sense,” Porzingis wrote in a social media post Friday. … “I’m doing good, but I know what it takes, and I’m not where I want to be to perform at the level I expect of myself.”

The likely course of action the Warriors will take is to try to trade Porzingis’ contract, given its considerable value for a one-year deal. There’s a decent chance they’ll be able to pull that off and bring in a player who could play a significant role on the team, more than likely in the frontcourt.
