Wizards newcomer Russell Westbrook ‘set the tone’ in debut

The Washington Wizards recently made a bold blockbuster trade to send the beloved John Wall to the Houston Rockets in exchange for perennial All-Star Russell Westbrook.

Although the deal has gotten its fair share of criticism, Westbrook seems to already be winning over his teammates and the fans after his debut with the team. Westbrook talked about his debut and what his role is on this Wizards team moving forward, via ESPN.

“It was good,” Russell Westbrook said of his first game as a Wizard. “We won, the most important part … I like where we were tonight.

“My job is to try to set the tone. Have them be ready to play.”

The Wizards beat the Detroit Pistons in Westbrook’s debut with the team. Westbrook’s numbers were anything but stellar in the 17 minutes he played. However Bradley Beal praised his new teammate, via ESPN.

“It just felt great,” Beal said of playing with Westbrook. “It was great energy … I don’t think it will be tough as people are trying to make it out to be. We both do a really good job off of feeding off of each other, just adjusting to how each other plays.

Westbrook finished with a typical stat line due to his short time on the court by filing a few categories with 8 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists.
