College Football Saturday: Bad Weather in the East Could Be a Factor
In the Atlantic Ocean this weekend, there is a lot going on. If you saw the movie “Perfect Storm”, something like that. Hopefully it won’t be so bad that football games on the east coast are cancelled, but expect weather to be bad. What will this mean? Usually bad weather means low scores. So when you are betting on games in the east this week, be wary of giving too many points. Some of these include
Florida Gators vs Georgia Bulldogs- Oddsmaker is giving Georgia +7. The weather in Jacksonville is going to be rough. In fact, as I type this, looking out my window, it’s already pretty bad. Throwing the ball will be difficult, which means a grind it out type game on the ground. 7 points will be a lot of points to make up. Both teams have very effective ground games, but with little threat of the pass, that is going to make running the ball more difficult. Florida’s defense has bottled up running games such as LSU, Texas A&M and South Carolina all season. Georgia has had trouble stopping the run. But this game, they’ll be able to load the box, which should make it easier. We like Georgia+7.
Ohio State at Penn State– Ohio State is -1. Braxton Miller comes into the game a bit banged up. Penn State has rallied for five straight wins since their 0-2 start. This is pretty much the bowl game for both teams since neither are bowl eligible this year. Bill O’Brien should be the runaway choice for every Coach of the Year award he’s eligible for. Urban Meyer has done a whale of a job turning the Buckeyes around this year too. The weather in this one is going to be really rough, but a one-point spread won’t matter much. This one is a toss-up. We’ll go with Penn State +1 at home.
Tennessee at South Carolina– Tennessee is +14 in this one. The game is in South Carolina which puts it right in the path of the hurricane. USC’s offense is a mess right now. Their defense is very tough though. 14 points will be a lot of points to make up for a team in rough weather who doesn’t really know who their best quarterback is right now. Last week, Connor Shaw was benched at halftime. The Vols offense is very one dimensional, that one dimension being the pass. In high winds and rain, that will be difficult. But with 14 points to play with, we like Tennessee +14.
