Famous Idaho Potato Bowl: Utah State vs Toledo

At 4:30 EST on the Blue “Smurf Turf” at Boise State University, the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl will kickoff between the Toledo Rockets and the #22 Utah State Aggies. The Aggies lost this bowl a season ago in heartbreaking fashion, 24-23 in the closing seconds to the Ohio Bobcats of the Mid-American Conference. This year’s Aggies team comes in with 10 wins and the final WAC championship before the conference disbands. The Aggies were five points short of a perfect season, losing to the Rose Bowl bound Wisconsin Badgers 16-14 and the Poinsettia Bowl Bound BYU Cougars 6-3, going 10-2. The Aggies have won six in a row including a win over the #20 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and the bowl bound San Jose State Spartans.

Toledo comes in at 9-3 which includes a win over #21 Cincinnati Bearcats on Oct 20. They were 6-2 in the MAC and their three losses were all to bowl bound teams as well, the New Mexico Bowl bound Arizona Wildcats 24-17, the Beef O’Brady’s Bowl bound Ball State Cardinals 34-27 and the Orange Bowl bound Northern Illinois Huskies 31-24. Toledo won their bowl game a year ago, also in dramatic fashion 42-41 over the Air Force Falcons in the Military Bowl.

Terrance Owens leads the Rockets at quarterback with 2677 yards passing and 14 touchdowns. The Rockets rushing attack is led by David Fluellen with 1460 yards and 13 touchdowns. The Aggies are led by Chuckie Keeton at quarterback who threw for 3144 yards and 27 touchdowns. Keeton spreads the ball around as he has four different receivers with 5 touchdown catches on the season. Kerwynn Williams leads the rushing attack with 1277 yards and 12 touchdowns.

This promises to be an exciting game with a lot of points on the board.
