Music City Bowl Preview: Ole Miss Takes on Ga Tech
The SEC has yet to compete in a bowl game this season despite having 10 teams going bowling. The Ole Miss Rebels will be the firs t team in the conference to take the field when they play former SEC foe, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets of the ACC in the Music City Bowl on Monday. The Jackets come into the game after losing to another SEC foe, the Georgia Bulldogs in a thriller, 41-34. The Rebels come into the contest after losing their last game to an instate rivals as well, 17-10 to the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
Ole Miss played a very tough schedule competing in the SEC West. They have some very nice wins on the resume including beating the Vanderbilt Commodores, Texas Longhorns and the LSU Tigers, all of who are playing in bowl games. They also lost to the Auburn Tigers by eight points, 30-22. The Tigers will be playing the Florida State Seminoles for the national championship on Jan 8.
The Rebels hauled in one of the best recruiting classes in the nation a year ago and that class has contributed greatly to their success. Wide receiver Laquon Treadwell has caught five touchdown passes, tied for the team lead and Robert Nkemdiche playing great on the defensive line, the Rebels look to be a team that will be tough for the next few years.
The Yellow Jackets are a tough match-up for everyone they play with the triple option offense they run. Most teams do not face this offense ay any other point in the season so it can give a defense a lot of problems. Tech amassed over 40 touchdowns on the ground and only 11 passing. They have three players, David Sims, Robert Godhigh and quarterback Vlad Lee,that scored at least six touchdowns on the ground. Sims led with 11.
Bookmaker has Ole Miss -3 -105 and Georgia Tech +3 -115 ATS. Moneyline is Ole Miss -145 and Tech +125. Over/under is 56.5 with over and under -110.
That triple option is tough to defend but the Rebels have had a month to get their assignments down pat. We are going to take Ole Miss -3 -105 and the over -110. We are more confident in the over -110 than we are in Ole Miss. This should be a high scoring affair.
We don’t have any SEC bowl games to get a sense on how the conference is doing, but we do have some ACC results. Pitt won their game over Bowling Green 30-27. Maryland lost their game to Marshall 31-20.
