SEC Football Saturday: Some Interesting “Under the Radar” Games
We all know about the big games this week in the SEC. We’ve heard all about the South Carolina Gamecocks going down to visit the Georgia Bulldogs. We know about the Florida Gators going down to play the Miami Hurricanes. But there are some other very intriguing SEC games this week you may not have heard about. For instance:
Toledo Rockets at Missouri Tigers– Why is this game interesting? Because the Rockets lost last week to the Gators 24-6. So we should get an idea from this one how good the Tigers are and also how good the Gators are. Betonline has Toledo +16 -110 and Mizzou -16 -110 ATS. Moneyline is Toledo +550 and Mizzou -710. We think it may be a little closer than that. We like the Rockets +16.
Arkansas State Red Wolves at Auburn Tigers– What is so interesting about this one? Gus Mahlzahn was the Red Wolves coach last season and is now the Tigers coach. Mahlzahn is an Arkansas high school coaching legend and also once was the Arkansas Razorbacks offensive coordinator. He turned the Red Wolves into a pretty tough team and this week he might regret that. The Wolves are +10.5 -110 and the Tigers -10.5 -110 ATS. Moneyline is the Wolves +340 and the Tigers -410. We like Arkansas State +10.5.
Austin Peay at Vanderbilt– Why in the world is a game where the point spread is 47.5 interesting? Because last week, the Governors lost 45-0 to the Tennessee Volunteers. If Vandy struggles against them this week, it could be a sign that the Vols are on the way back to taking the state of Tennessee over again. If Vandy crushes them even worse then maybe the ‘Dores still run this state. Peay is +47.5 -110 and Vandy is -47.5 -110 ATS. We like Vandy to cover.
Miami Red Hawks at Kentucky Wildcats– Miami is +17.5 -110 and UK is -17.5 -110 ATS. Moneyline is Miami +690 and Kentucky -900. Why is this game interesting? For one thing, people form Kentucky and Ohio don’t like each other. And for another, it is hard to imagine why UK would be such a heavy favorite against anybody after losing to Western Kentucky last week. We’re going with Miami +17.5.
UAB Blazers at LSU Tigers– What is so interesting about this game? The Blazers are +34.5 -110 and the Tigers are -34.5 -110. Nothing really, except that the Blazers have gone to Baton Rouge and won before. Let’s see if Tigers fans, players and coaches remember that. If they do, we Like LSU to cover.
After this week in the SEC we should know a lot more than we do now. We’ll be able to compare Missouri with Florida, Tennessee with Vanderbilt, Tennessee with Kentucky, and we’ll know a lot more about the Gators, Georgia and South Carolina. We’ll also be watching to see how Johnny Manziel of the Texas A&M Aggies handles himself this week before the big showdown with the Alabama Crimson Tide next week.
