SEC Rivalry Weekend: LSU vs Auburn and Tennessee vs Florida

tennesseewku-wrSeptember seems to be a bit early for college football rivalries. But in the SEC, where every team has several. some of them have to be played early on. Such is the case this weekend when the Tennessee Volunteers will visit the Swamp to take on the Florida Gators and the Auburn Tigers will look to pull off the upset in Death Valley as they visit the LSU Tigers.

These two rivalries have been sagging in recent years as Tennessee and Auburn have been down a bit. In fact, the Vols have not beaten Florida since the days of Ron Zook, a string that runs eight in a row. But Vols fans can take heart as it seems Florida may have another Zook on their hands in coach Will Muschamp, who like Zook likes to keep the score low and try to win with a strong defense and ball control offense. So maybe the Vols can hang?

Auburn just snapped a long SEC losing streak last week with a last-second win over Mississippi State. The sad thing about the win was there were no trees to toilet paper afterward. In the annual “Tiger Bowl”, LSU has had its way ever since Cam Newton left for the NFL. LSU won last year’s game 45-10.

Do the Vols and Tigers (Auburn) have a realistic chance this week? Probably not. But they think they do and that should make for some interesting football.

Betonline has the odds on tomorrow’s games:

Tennessee at Florida– Tennessee is +16 -110 and Florida is -16 -110 ATS. Tennessee is +510 and Florida is -650 Moneyline. Over/Under is 47 with both -110. We like the Gators to cover and we like the under. We took Tennessee with 29 last week and lost by two touchdowns. We’re not falling for that one again. Florida has had two weeks to get ready for this one, all the while fuming over giving the game against the Miami Hurricanes away.

Auburn at LSU– Auburn is +17 -115 and LSU is -17 -105 ATS. Moneyline is Auburn +535 and LSU -675. Over/Under is 55 with both -110. We like LSU to cover on this one as well. There is not a much tougher road game in the SEC than Baton Rouge at night and that is what Auburn faces here. We think they are not quite ready. We like LSU -17 and the over -110.

Other tan these two games, there is not much happening in the SEC this week. Vanderbilt is taking on UMass. Boring. Mississippi State is hosting Troy. Yawn. Alabama is hosting Colorado State. That should be very ugly.

One game of interest is the Arkansas Razorbacks at the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Arkansas is +2.5 -110 and Rutgers is -2.5 -110. Moneyline is Arkansas +120 and Rutgers -140. Over/Under is 43.5 with both -110. We like Rutgers -2.5 and the over.
