Two Big Matchups in the B1G This Weekend
The B1G has two B1G matchups to pay attention to this weekend that are going to make big moves in the way the rest of the season plays out, especially in the West division. Nebraska visits Northwestern and Iowa will head to Maryland.
Nebraska vs Northwestern
The last three games between the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Northwestern Wildcats have come down the bitter wire. The teams have kept games close and exciting in the past few years and this Saturday should be no different when Nebraska visits Northwestern. Last year, Nebraska won on a final second Hail Mary.
Northwestern’s defense has performed well so far this season, their most impressive display when they upset Penn State at home on Homecoming. Even though Northwestern lost to Minnesota last week, the defense kept Minnesota to only 274 yards on offense.
Statistic wise, this is Nebraska’s game to lose. Northwestern has come up strong in recent games and come out on top in unexpected fashion.
Iowa at Maryland
The Hawkeyes will take the trip to College Park to face the Terps in an inter-divisional match up for Maryland’s Homecoming weekend and the first ever meeting between the two teams. Statistic-wise, this is going to be a great game as the Terps and Hawkeyes are fairly statistically even so far this season. Rushing yards are 140.3 for Maryland and 130.3 for Iowa. Both teams operate a dual quarterback system. The Terps have scored at least 24 points in all six games. Iowa is on a three-game winning streak and undefeated in the Big Ten. An exciting environment with a fairly even matchup is going to make for a great game day environment at Byrd Stadium.
