NCABB’s Unbeaten Teams

Remaining unbeaten is no easy task in any sport. Right now in college basketball there are six unbeaten teams that would like to remain that way throughout the season. Here they are ranked from best to worse.

Ohio State

Ohio State had a difficult time handling Notre Dame and had to fight hard to win that game to remain undefeated.

Among everyone featured on this list, Ohio State is likely has the least amount of time left to enjoy their undaunted streak. Tonight they will take on Michigan State in a game that the odds say they should lose.  They are the 5.5 point underdogs. If Ohio State manages to defeat Michigan State then we can start discussing Ohio State as the real deal.

Iowa State

Iowa State will likely hold on to their undefeated status another week as they will make short work of Baylor.  They are favored by six points to win.

Iowa State finds itself in a tough division in the Big 12, which is likely to be the undoing of their undefeated season hopes.  The last team to go undefeated in the Big 12 was Kansas back in 2002. They have also struggled against 13 different opponents this season, having to recover from double-digit deficits in all those games.  Iowa State’s luck will eventually run out.

Wisconsin

Wisconsin’s undefeated season comes by the good grace of their easy schedule. Their next challenge does not come until Feb. 4 when they take on Illinois. Illinois will likely put an unhappy end to Wisconsin’s undefeated streak.

Wichita State

Wichita State is a great basketball team playing in a very poor division and have a great chance at actually going undefeated this season. Granted that hasn’t been done since Saint Joseph did it in 2004, but a similar storm is brewing for Wichita State.

Syracuse

Syracuse also has a real shot at going undefeated despite their tough division. Teams in the ACC have yet to figure out Syracuse’s zone style of play. However, Syracuse will run into an old nemesis on Feb. 12 in a game against Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh will have two chances this season to knock off Syracuse and will likely do it in one of those games.  They have gone nine of ten seasons defeating Syracuse at least once.

Arizona

Arizona is a team that has a tough schedule ahead including games against UCLA and Colorado. UCLA is not on the top 25, but they have proven to be tricky for Arizona. Arizona has not beaten UCLA since 2010. Also, they will run into Colorado on the road in February. Colorado is currently ranked 15 in the nation.

Arizona will likely fall to one of these two teams.
