The New England Patriots were surrounded by controversy following the team’s Super Bowl win over the Seattle Seahawks back in February. All anyone could talk about was “Deflategate” and Tom Brady’s four-game suspension, but despite the off-the-field issues, this team has been firing on all cylinders in the first three weeks of the 2015 NFL season.

With an impressive 3-0 record, the Patriots appear to be the best team in the AFC without much debate, but New England isn’t done trying to bolster their roster.

According to NFL.com, the Patriots worked out former Denver Broncos running back Montee Ball:

Three weeks after Montee Ball went unclaimed on waivers, the former Denver Broncos second-round draft pick is drawing interest from another AFC powerhouse.

The New England Patriots worked out Ball on Tuesday, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported.

Working out Ball is an interesting move for the Patriots will no real need at the running back position. Dion Lewis has been a breakout talent for New England this season with the relatively unknown back already having racked up 517 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns.

As if Lewis’ production wasn’t good enough, veteran LeGarrette Blount is coming off a three-touchdown performance in the win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. An impressive stat to say the least.

If the Patriots ultimately do bring in Ball, it may be an insurance move for the storied franchise. During his short two-year stint with the Broncos, Ball recorded 175 carries and 938 yards from scrimmage with a grand total of five touchdowns.
