NFC East: Week 5 Trends and Odds

The NFC East continued to absolutely spiral out of control last weekend as the Eagles, Giants and Cowboys all lost. The Giants, in particular, have been the biggest surprise of the NFL season, though for all the wrong reasons. The G-Men fell to 0-4 on Sunday, and there don’t appear to be any solutions in sight for the reeling squad.

“It is disappointing,” said quarterback Eli Manning after Sunday’s 31-7 loss to the Chiefs. “The defense got us some turnovers and we weren’t able to do anything with it. We are just not playing very well offensively.”

The Eagles, meanwhile, got steamrolled by the Denver Broncos. Though Chip Kelly’s fast paced offense has shown flashes of promise this season, Philly’s defense is far too porous to succeed at any real capacity.

“I think it is disconcerting,” Eagles coach Chip Kelly said. “But you’re also playing against an offense that four teams have tried to stop them and they haven’t yet. I don’t have an answer.”

The Cowboys, meanwhile, continued their unfortunate tradition of blowing double-digit leads on the road, going up 21-10 on the Chargers before eventually losing 30-21. Washington has a bye this week, but the other three NFC East teams could be in for some trouble. Philly and the Giants play each other in a brutal match, and the Cowboys get the Denver Broncos offensive juggernaut rolling into Jerry’s World.
