NFL News: Adrian Peterson Set To Meet With New Orleans Saints
One of the best running backs in NFL history remains unemployed well into the free agency process. Adrian Peterson has officially parted ways the Minnesota Vikings and is currently looking for work, but teams around the league aren’t exactly jumping at the opportunity to sign an often injured 32-year-old back.
Although Peterson remains unsigned at this point during the NFL offseason, there is still interest in his services from teams that could use a boost in the running game. The New Orleans Saints appear to be one of those teams with Peterson set for a visit to the Big Easy, according to NFL.com:
The former Minnesota Vikings running back will meet with the New Orleans Saints next week, NFL Network’s Heath Evans reported, via a source informed of the team’s plans.
Peterson has already met with two of the league’s elite teams in the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots. The veteran back left both meetings with these teams without a deal. The Saints will be the third team Peterson will meet with and has yet to schedule any other meetings with teams.
The Oakland Raiders were also once rumored to be interested in Peterson’s services even before letting Latavius Murray walk in NFL free agency to be his replacement in Minnesota. Now Oakland may be determined to bring in Marshawn Lynch after he told the team he intends to un-retire.
Peterson played in only three games this past season with the Vikings before going down with another knee injury. The veteran back only racked up a total of 72 yards on 37 carries during those three games and failed to reach the endzone finished with more fumbles (1) than touchdowns (0).
Despite not exactly instilling confidence from teams after last season, Peterson will almost certainly find a new home with teams like New Orleans still willing to give him a chance.
