2022 NFL playoffs: 5 best Super Bowl 57 matchups
Looking at the 2022 NFL playoffs, these would be the top five Super Bowl LVII matchups to watch come mid-February.
5. Philadelphia Eagles vs. Buffalo Bills
This would be the Super Bowl matchup many predicted in August, and it would be a fun one. The Eagles have been the league’s best team for much of the season, going 13-1 before Jalen Hurts missed a few games with a shoulder injury to end the season.
Buffalo and Philadelphia both have dual threats under center who create tough matchups for the other side, and each has elite receivers who can make big plays downfield. It would be a treat seeing these two offenses get after it.
4. San Francisco 49ers vs. Kansas City Chiefs
A rematch of three years ago, and there are still many of the same actors on both sides. We’d see how Kyle Shanahan and Andy Reid try to differ from their gameplans when the teams saw each other both in Super Bowl LIV and Week 8, both Kansas City victories.
Of course, this would also be a battle of quarterbacks. In one corner, San Francisco’s rookie seventh-round pick in Brock Purdy. In the other corner, Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes, an overwhelming favorite to win his second MVP.
3. Buffalo Bills vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
This might not be the best matchup in terms of competitiveness, but can you imagine? Tom Brady, who tortured the Bills and their fans for the better part of two decades, being who is standing in the way of Buffalo finally winning its first Super Bowl? Incredible theater.
The Bills would likely hammer Tampa Bay, but then again, if the Buccaneers earned their way to the Super Bowl, they’d be playing quality football.
2. San Francisco 49ers vs. Cincinnati Bengals
A rematch for the third time in Super Bowl history? Sure, why not? The 49ers beat the Bengals in 1981 and ’88, giving Hall of Fame coach Bill Walsh two of his three titles. This time around, Cincinnati would be going in with the advantage under center, putting Joe Burrow out there against Brock Purdy.
It would be fascinating to see how the Niners would defend Cincinnati’s hoard of weapons including receivers Ja’Marr Chase, Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins.
1. Philadelphia Eagles vs. Kansas City Chiefs
The subplots are endless. The top two MVP candidates at quarterback. Andy Reid facing his old squad. Jason and Travis Kelce going against each other. Again, endless.
It’s also the best game. These are the two best teams in football, both going 14-3. Each is the top seed, and each has the capability to score 35 points in any game.
