49ers CB Richard Sherman looking forward to coming back ‘better than ever’

The San Francisco 49ers recently signed veteran cornerback Richard Sherman to a deal in which he negotiated without an agent doing the work for him. Sherman is betting on himself with a team-friendly deal. He will try to reinvent himself in San Francisco following an Achilles injury he suffered with the Seattle Seahawks.

With Sherman still recovering, there’s been speculation about when he may debut for his new team. Now it appears a timeline has been given. Sherman believes he’ll be ready by May or possibly June, via Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk.

“That timeline will be fine,” the new 49ers cornerback said in a press conference, via a live feed posted by the team. “I think people like to — with the Achilles or any injury — compare people. ‘This guy came back like this; this guy’s coming back like that.’ There are some people who are cut from a different cloth and built from different things, and I think I’m one of those people. I look forward to showing people you can come back better from things. I know AP [Adrian Peterson] did it, but that was a knee. But I look forward to coming back better than ever. I have a lot of things to show a few people.”

Playoffs

Signing Sherman is a move that has received criticism. However, the All-Pro corner is confident he’ll be back and ready to contribute at a high level for San Francisco.

Despite the fact that the last few years have been forgettable to stay the least for San Francisco, the team is getting a lot of buzz after an impressive finish to last year’s season with Jimmy Garoppolo under center. Garoppolo has the 49ers potentially in the playoff picture or better next season with a healthy Sherman possibly increasing their chances of being a much-improved team defensively.
