49ers’ Christian McCaffrey reveals status for Week 1

Throughout his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers, superstar Christian McCaffrey has consistently struggled with staying healthy and available for his team every week.

Those injury issues seemed like they came to an end or were at least headed in a different direction when he had the best season of his career in 2023, when he was an NFL MVP candidate, scoring 21 touchdowns and racking up 2,023 yards from scrimmage for the 49ers.

Unfortunately for San Francisco, McCaffrey followed up that career year by playing a total of four games during the 2024 campaign. Heading into the 2025 NFL season, the veteran running back has already popped up on the team’s injury report, making him questionable for Week 1, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN.

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey did not practice Friday with a calf issue that popped up during Thursday’s workout, but he once again made it clear that he believes he will be on the field Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.

Despite the calf issue, McCaffrey claims he plans to play Sunday on the road against the division rival Seattle Seahawks.

“I always plan to play,” McCaffrey said. “I feel great about where I’m at. Unfortunately, when you have the injury history that I have, sometimes when you don’t practice, things get blown out of proportion. But like I said, I feel great.”

Obviously, considering his injury history, this has become a hot topic of discussion and will be something monitored ahead of Sunday’s clash in Seattle.
