49ers received most players selected for the NFL Pro Bowl

As the regular season nears a close, the NFL announced this year’s selections for the Pro Bowl. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy and Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa reached their first-time selections, making it the first occurrence that each slated starting player at the position earned their first nod since 1999.

Purdy has put together an impressive campaign while leading the 49ers to the top overall NFC playoff seed. He will finish the regular season ranked first with a 113.0 passer rating. That, as well as with with 4,280 passing yards, and 31 touchdowns make for an influential contribution.

Tagovailoa bounced back after an injury-plagued 2022 season by posting career highs with 4,451 passing yards, 28 touchdown passes, and a 103.0 passer rating.

The 49ers received the most players selected for the Pro Bowl. Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys each had seven players.

There were other notable standouts to earn the nomination with rookies as Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua and Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta received the nod.

The other quarterbacks were Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Dak Prescott and Matthew Stafford.

49ers Trent Williams earned his 11th Pro Bowl nod, which is the most among active players. Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald was chosen for the 10th time in as many seasons.

The Pro Bowl will take place on Feb. 4 and will be played in Orlando for the first time in three years. The format for the game will include a multiday AFC versus NFC competition with Pro Bowl skills and a flag football game.
