5 NFL teams that should go into full rebuild mode

5. Detroit Lions

The Lions aren’t going to do this, because they can’t admit that the current situation is a mess. Consider the fact that Detroit just dropped $90 million on Trey Flowers, $36 million on Justin Coleman and $25 million on Jesse James, and they remain the fourth-best team in its own division. The Lions should be shopping Matthew Stafford and that massive contract, selling it off to the highest bidder. Stafford is a wonderful player with zero playoff wins, which is both an indictment of his ceiling and the nonsense he’s been surrounded with.

4. Denver Broncos

What is John Elway doing in the Mile High City? The Broncos are neither here nor there, and trading Case Keenum to the Washington Redskins after “upgrading” with Joe Flacco seems like a desperate attempt to be relevant. Look, the Broncos aren’t competing with the Los Angeles Chargers let alone the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West. Denver should be trying to get significant value for Von Miller and Chris Harris Jr. while it still can. Instead, Elway seems hellbent on going 7-9 and selecting 19th in the 2020 draft. It’s a plan that will keep the Broncos on a treadmill to oblivion.

3. New York Giants

What is Dave Gettleman trying to prove with this circus the Giants are putting forth this offseason? New York is trying to trot out Eli Manning and say that its not a throwaway season? Compound that with the trade that sent Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns for two draft picks and Jabrill Peppers, and good luck trying to win in a division with both the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys. Gettleman should go completely in on a rebuild and punt on the next few seasons, understanding his plight.

2. Miami Dolphins

This is the one team on this list which gets it. General manager Chris Grier has done a tremendous job in understanding exactly where the Dolphins are in the pecking order, and he’s stripped it down to the bare bones. Miami is going to be atrocious in 2019, and that’s exactly what Grier and Co. want. If all goes to plan, the Dolphins are looking at winning three games or so and landing the top pick in the draft, which can be turned into a franchise quarterback. Short-term pain for the payoff of long-term gain.

Does it really need to be said. The damn team hasn’t won a playoff game since 1990. Blow it up already.
