Browns QB Baker Mayfield says praise from Drew Brees ‘doesn’t get much higher than that’
Since entering the league, Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback has received praise from various peers around the league concerning his ability on the field.
This latest has been New Orleans Saints star quarterback Drew Brees voicing that he believes Mayfield could be better than him. In response to those high words, the 23-year-old stated that he was humbled by Brees’ comments about him, according to The Associated Press.
“Yeah, it doesn’t get much higher than that,” Mayfield said following practice. “That’s one of the greatest to play of all time. That’s the guy that I’ve had an unbelievable amount of respect for and looked up to just because of where I’m from first and then size and story as well. So I’ve always enjoyed watching him.”

The fact that Brees is giving this type of comparison speaks highly of the potential that Mayfield has to develop into a franchise quarterback and possibly much further than that. Brees has put together an illustrious career that has him on a trajectory that could possibly make him a first-ballot Hall of Famer as he has sustained his elite level of play throughout his career.

In the 2017 season, Brees finished fourth in the league with 4,334 passing yards, first with a 72.0 completion rate and second with a 103.9 passer rating. This was also his 12th straight year with more than 4,000 passing yards, and his sixth overall holding a passer rating above 100.
If Brees truly believes that Mayfield has that type of talent, it could bode extremely well for the Browns’ long-term future.
