Bengals sign QB Joe Burrow to massive contract extension
The speculation and waiting has finally come to an end for superstar quarterback Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals, with the team making the 26-year-old a very wealthy man before the 2023 NFL season tipped off on Thursday night.
According to ESPN, the Bengals have agreed to a long-term deal with Burrow, which makes him the highest-paid player in NFL history, with a guaranteed amount of $219.01 million.
Joe Burrow reached an agreement on a five-year, $275 million extension with the team that includes $219.01 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Thursday.
The contract averages $55 million per year. The deal ends months of negotiations and rewards a player who has flipped Cincinnati’s fortunes.
Once Justin Herbert signed his deal with the Los Angeles Chargers, which made him the highest-paid player in the league, it was only a matter of time before Burrow would put pen to paper, making him the next player in the NFL to reset the quarterback market.

Although there seemed to be some doubt about how fast this contract would come to fruition after Burrow suffered a calf strain during practice in training camp, the Bengals stuck by the face of the franchise and now will have him leading the way for the foreseeable future.
With Burrow’s contract situation no longer being a distraction for the Bengals, the superstar quarterback and his team can get back to work as Cincinnati tries to put it all together this season in order to make a run at a Super Bowl title.
