A.J. Green‘s ankle didn’t cooperate with plans for him to return to action this week and the Bengals officially ruled the wide receiver out for the ninth time in 2019 on Friday.
It is yet another disappointing turn of events for the Bengals. They have dropped their first eight games. As a result, they’re on the fast track towards missing the playoffs for the fourth straight year. The team has headed quickly south in the first campaign under head coach Zac Taylor.
The team has already shaken things up at the quarterback position by sitting Andy Dalton for this week’s action. The lack of the presence from Green has put a greater emphasis of the porous season it has been for Cincinnati.

What makes this situation that much more intriguing is that the 31-year-old is in the final year of his four-year, $60 million deal. He has expressed that he wants to work out a long-term contract with the team. Although, he doesn’t want to be placed under the franchise tag for the 2020 campaign.
Ultimately, only time will tell how this entire matter will shake out as Green has been one of the game’s top wide receivers when healthy.
