Bills sign former Patriots RB Damien Harris

The Buffalo Bills quickly addressed their backfield need after inking veteran running back Damien Harris to a one-year deal.

Harris will fill the void left by Devin Singletary after he inked a one-year, $3.75 million deal with Houston. The 26-year-old has totaled 2,0284 rushing yards on 449 attempts with 20 touchdowns. As well as that, he has 40 catches for 281 receiving yards in 38 regular-season games.

He is coming off posting 486 rushing yards on 106 attempts with three touchdowns. Harris experienced a decrease in production in 2022 after Rhamondre Stevenson became the leading option.

The Alabama product will have an opportunity to secure a significant role in the Bills’ running game which has lost its leading rusher for the last four seasons. He will compete against James Cook and Nyheim Hines for playing time.

Cook is coming off posting 507 rushing yards, while Hines played a smaller role in nine games totaling nine catches for 53 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Buffalo has relied on stable production in the running game featuring star quarterback Josh Allen as a key contributor. However, the Bills are likely looking to shift toward Allen playing a smaller role in helping keep him healthy over the long haul of the regular season.

The Bills have struggled to get over the hump in the playoff, falling short in the AFC divisional round to Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals. The front office will continue to add talent around Allen in hopes of finally taking the next leap toward vying for a Super Bowl.
