Brian Flores claims his relationship with Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa ‘wasn’t strained’
Since Brian Flores was let go by the Miami Dolphins after two seasons, he has become an open book regarding his tenure.
One of the prominent discussion topics concerns his relationship with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Flores voiced via the I Am Athlete podcast that he didn’t have a fractured connection with the Alabama product.
“This is an interesting topic because it wasn’t strained,” Flore said via Pro Football Talk. We had a good relationship. It was a player-coach relationship. And I think in a relationship like that, you know, the coach challenges the player. And oftentimes the player challenges the coach. And I think there was a great deal of respect between the two of us. So you hear these crazy kind of — this narrative that’s out there. But this is a young man who works, who developed and got better over two years and, you know, I think he’s got, you know, a bright future. I wish him all the best . . . .
“So the world can think what it wants to think. I think — ask Tua, you know? I’m here to say what I gotta say, and you can ask him. So, I think he’d say the same thing.”
Flores’ decision-making with Tagovailoa comes into focus as he lacked true flexibility with the offensive playbook. The game plan gave off the notion that the team didn’t entirely commit to him as the unquestioned long-term future.

The Dolphins remained linked to Deshaun Watson as a potential landing spot, which Flores repeatedly shot down the notion. However, the rumors didn’t wane as it only further fueled the chatter around Tagovailoa.
With Flores out of the picture, the Dolphins may move securely forward with the 23-year-old leading the charge.
