Browns set Shedeur Sanders’ place in QB depth chart

After a lot of speculation and attention given throughout the NFL offseason, training camp and preseason, the Cleveland Browns have decided how things will begin at the quarterback position heading into Week 1 of the 2025 campaign.

The Browns will go with veteran Joe Flacco as their starting quarterback, which wasn’t all that surprising, considering his resume and ability to still play at a high level at 40 years old.

However, who would be Flacco’s backup was the biggest question mark for the Browns, with all three other quarterbacks seemingly being capable. After two moves have been made, Cleveland knows what the quarterback depth chart looks like, according to Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.

The Cleveland Browns have trimmed their crowded quarterback room and named a backup.

After trading Kenny Pickett to the Las Vegas Raiders and releasing Tyler Huntley, the Browns will enter the regular season with three quarterbacks — starter Joe Flacco and rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.

Gabriel has gotten the nod over Sanders to be the second man on the depth chart behind Flacco.

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Tuesday that Gabriel, who was selected in the third round of the draft, would enter the season as Flacco’s backup.

With Sanders being such a media magnet and a player who draws a lot of debate and conversation, the decision will likely be met with some criticism, as the big-name rookie becomes a third-stringer.

However, this was likely the right move, as it allows the Colorado product to learn without the added pressure of being the backup.
