Browns WR Odell Beckham Jr. says ‘of course’ chemistry will be better with Baker Mayfield

Before heading into the 2019 NFL season, the Cleveland Browns made a bold move that sent shockwaves throughout the league. The struggling franchise acquired superstar wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in a blockbuster trade with the New York Giants. In doing so, they seemed to land the perfect target for up-and-coming quarterback, Baker Mayfield.

Unfortunately, the 2019 campaign didn’t go as planned for the Browns. Cleveland was expected to be a playoff contender if not a title contender in the AFC. However, things gradually fell apart from week to week. As a result, many speculated that Mayfield wasn’t the right man for the job and that Beckham may want out.

With 2019 behind them, Beckham is looking toward what he hopes will be a promising future and some improved chemistry with Mayfield in 2020. The superstar wideout said the following on if he thinks chemistry will be better this season opposed to last, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

“Of course, I’m going to say [the chemistry] is going to be better than last year,’’ Beckham said on a Zoom call Tuesday. “It’s kind of a day-by-day approach, and we’ll see what happens when we get out on the field. As far as him, he looks great – mentally, physically. He has like a four-pack now. He’s doing great. He’s just in a good place. As a teammate and as a guy who has always been a fan of Baker and as a brother, it’s great to see him in this place.

“We’re just working each and every day. One of the biggest things through COVID and through all of these things, just taking things one day at a time really for me as has been major. Just working on today and finishing up the day strong. Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.”

There’s no question that the Browns have one of the most talented offenses in the NFL. The team even got a boost in the backfield last season with Nick Chubb turning into a star and one of the best running backs in the league. Although, the coaching and quarterback play left something to be desired resulting in a disappointing outcome after being lauded as a potential Super Bowl title contender.

It’ll be interesting to see if Mayfield and Beckham can get on the same page in 2020 with Kevin Stefanski now running the show and the high expectations subsiding rather than being a constant distraction.
