Buccaneers’ Gerald McCoy doesn’t like people questioning his work ethic
Through the first five weeks of training camp for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, star defensive tackle Gerald McCoy has been notably absent.
This has seen plenty of criticism toward his direction in regards to his commitment to the team. In light of that, McCoy has responded to that on social media with a video of himself working out, according to Jenna Laine of ESPN.
“Cinco de Mayo. Everybody out, probably getting ready to go drink, probably drinking right now. Don’t matter. They want to question me? This is what I do on Cinco de Mayo. I work. I work,” said McCoy, covered in sweat inside a gymnasium.
McCoy then panned the camera to show his young twins playing basketball in the background.
“Oh, and I’ve got my kids with me. How many people doing that?” McCoy said. “All-Pro on and off the field. Wanna question me? The heck? Is he gonna be ready? Do he love football? What?! Y’all crazy. Lost y’all mind. I work. Don’t you ever question me!”
Prior to the start of training camp, there were questions about his long-term future with the franchise. McCoy is entering the final year of his contract that has seen his name be involved in trade rumors in the process.
He has typically been involved at the team’s practice facility over the offseason. Through his first nine years in the league with the franchise, McCoy has a key fixture on the defensive line.
That said, it is still quite early in the offseason with plenty of time to work things out between both sides.
