Bucs get an update on status of Baker Mayfield, Chris Godwin

After winning the first three games of the season and being one of only six undefeated teams left in the NFL, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ chances of competing with the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles just improved.

According to Jenna Laine of ESPN, Baker Mayfield, Chris Godwin and Tristan Wirfs are all expected to play on Sunday.

Three key Tampa Bay Buccaneers players listed as questionable — quarterback Baker Mayfield, wide receiver Chris Godwin Jr. and left tackle Tristan Wirfs — are expected to play Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Saturday.

Obviously, getting three stars on the field to face perhaps the best team in the league is a good sign, even though star wide receiver Mike Evans is still on the mend due to a hamstring injury.

Although Evans remains out, Bucs offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard praises Mayfield’s ability to prepare while being as tough as nails.

“He does such a good job of preparing already — a lot like what Teddy [Bridgewater] was doing,” Grizzard said. “Everybody’s on the same page, even Baze [rookie Connor Bazelak], talking through the practice squad side of it on contingency plans for even him, like in Week 1. So it’s all about mental reps, and he’s taking all of those and is in a good spot and watching all the film and getting all the protections and cans and all the things in order.”

As of Saturday, the Bucs are underdogs (-3.5) at home at Raymond James Stadium coming into this matchup of undefeated teams. It’ll be interesting to see if Mayfield and company are the real deal, as they’ll be put to the test against the Eagles.
