Bucs set to part ways with head coach Dirk Koetter

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were once considered to be a promising young team led by a potential star in the making with quarterback Jameis Winston. That optimism in Tampa Bay seems to have disappeared unfortunately with the team struggling to compete in a tough division.

In the season finale against the Atlanta Falcons, the Bucs put up a fight against their division rivals but fell short and now finish the 2018 campaign at 5-11. The loss is the fourth in the row for the Bucs and following the defeat to the Falcons the team announced that they’d be parting ways with head coach Dirk Koetter, according to Jenna Laine of ESPN.

After three trying seasons, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have relieved coach Dirk Koetter of his duties, the team announced Sunday.

Koetter finishes his stint with the Bucs with a 19-29 record and despite the promise of a bright future, his time with the team was forgettable, to say the least.

Bucs owner Joel Glazer made the following statement about the team’s decision, via Laine.

“We sincerely appreciate the hard work and commitment shown by Dirk over the past several years,” Buccaneers owner/co-chairman Joel Glazer said in a statement. “Working with Dirk has been a pleasure and we wish him and his family all the best in the future. Our search for a new head coach will begin immediately and will be conducted by General Manager Jason Licht.”

It’ll be interesting to see what direction Tampa Bay goes after parting ways with Koetter. The team may go through some drastic changes in the NFL offseason, but they still have some good pieces to build around on both sides of the football making it an intriguing destination for coaches looking to get back into the game.
