Cam Newton is furious about Panthers saying he can pursue a trade
Over the last few months, there has been a growing notion that Cam Newton has played his last game with the Carolina Panthers.
That was clarified further on Tuesday as the Panther took to social media to air that they were permitting Newton to seek a trade. It didn’t take long for the star quarterback to respond as voiced that he never asked to be moved. (H/T Darin Gantt of Pro Football Talk)

“Stop with the word play. I never asked for it,” he wrote. “There is no dodging this one. I love the Panthers to death and will always love you guys.
“Please do not try to play me, or manipulate the narrative and act like I wanted this. You forced me into this.”
Although Newton never asked to be traded, it’s quite clear that the team has moved on from him. The Panthers agreed to a reported three-year, $60 million deal with Teddy Bridgewater to step in as the starter. It has also but painted the picture that his time with the franchise will end shortly.

There is no question that Newton is a highly-talented quarterback. However, the last two seasons have been cut short due to injury that required surgery. That has cast doubt that he can stay healthy throughout a season while he’s in the final year of his five-year, $103.8 million deal.
Regardless of how he feels about the situation, Newton will have a new home in the NFL where he can prove he can still be a viable starting quarterback. Given the news about Tom Brady, next season may well be about which quarterback settles into a new team faster. As of yet there are no indications about where Newton will end up.
